Teen dies, others injured as ute rolls in state’s south-west

A 14-year-old boy has been killed in a ute roll-over on a private property in the state’s Riverina.

The teenager was thrown from the vehicle along with two other boys at Yerong Creek south-west of Wagga.

Five emergency crews including two helicopters were called in, but they couldn’t save the young boy who died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Eamonn Purcell was there and tells Ben Fordham it was “especially hard” for the other teens involved.

“These young kids were on scene with one of their mates with critical injuries in front of them for quite some time until we could get to them because it’s quite a way out of Wagga.”

He says the boy was “thrown and crushed at the same time” when the ute rolled.

“We’re not exactly sure of the circumstances, police are obviously investigating.

“But we found this young fella on the ground… it’s been a very tragic afternoon.”
