Teacher vaccine mandate to be scrapped

Article image for Teacher vaccine mandate to be scrapped

NSW Department of Education staff will no longer be required to be vaccinated with the mandate set to end next week.

NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell joined Jim Wilson on Drive to explain the decision to end compulsory vaccination.

“We’ll be moving away from those state-wide public health orders and each government department will look through this on a risk-based assessment,” Ms Mitchell said.

“From the first day of next term the proposal that we have is that staff won’t have to be fully vaccinated.”

For staff who work with children with disability or complex needs, the mandate will remain in place.

The minister also believes the move could help with current staff shortages.
