Today marks the first-day same-sex couples around Australia can legally get married and the Apple Isle is pushing to become the go-to destination.

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) and Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality have joined forces to launch a campaign promoting the state as the premier destination for LGBTQI couples to get married.

Only decriminalising homosexuality in 1997,  CEO of TICT Luke Martin admits the state had a terrible reputation, but it’s something they are working on.

“What we wanted to do was get on the front foot.”

“We’d love to see [couples] get married and bring some of that love to the Apple Isle.”
