It has just been announced that residents in Kyogle, Tweed, Ballina and Byron LGA’s will receive $2000 in additional disaster payments off the back of floods.

These communities were rallying as they were yet to receive funding however now, the National Recovery and Resilience Agency has updated its assessment that initially only offered the cash to Lismore LGA.

Richmond MP Justine Elliot told Jim Wilson the whole situation was “beyond shambolic”.

“This past week has been incredibly distressing for our community.

Ms Elliot told Jim the decision has “taken way too long”.

This is an exclusive statement from NSW Liberal Upper House MP Catherine Cusak:
“I am immensely relieved and I welcome the decision. It is so needed and that money will really make a difference to affected people and their families. In terms of my decision to leave – nothing has changed. If it has helped the flood victims then I am of course delighted but I don’t have the personal resources to keep fighting these battles. It’s someone else’s turn now to keep up the good fight for our region.”
