Wild Oats XI has smashed the Sydney to Hobart race record by four and a half hours, a record that was broken by five hours just last year.

But the Supermaxi is now waiting on the results of an appeal from Comanche after the two boats were involved in a near collision about 15 minutes into the race.

Skipper Mark Richards is not concerned about the appeal and has praised the efforts of his crew.

Ross Greenwood speaks with Macquarie Media’s Steve Barker about the race and the upcoming hearing.
