The laest data from Domain shows the cost of renting a unit in Sydney rose by 18.6 percent in the 12 months to December.

The rent now sits at a median of $575, while the cost of a house remains at a record of $650.

NSW Opposition leader Chris Minns told Joe Hildebrand the numbers are alarming.

“Over the past 12 months, people are paying triple the rate of inflation when it comes to renting units.”
