Sydney couple denied ambulance amid newborn’s terrifying near-death experience

Mark Levy

A Sydney dad has slammed the NSW government after he was told there were no ambulances available to treat his premature newborn.

Father Alex called 000 on Sunday morning after his wife unexpectedly gave birth to their son on the bathroom floor.

Alex drove baby Ethan to the hospital, while his wife – who was trained as a midwife – performed CPR on the newborn.

“It was a terrifying ordeal,” he told Mark Levy.

“We really want [the government] to discontinue this narrative that the health system is coping when it clearly isn’t.”

Ethan has made a full recovery.
