A tornado warning for the west of Penrith, heading toward Blacktown, Fairfield and Liverpool, has been lifted.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Jordan Notara told Jim Wilson the “escalating storm situation” was showing signs of tornado activity.

“The signature that we are seeing on the radar are indicative of something that will produce damaging to destructive wind gusts [and] large to giant hail.”

The wild weather is suspected to have caused a ceiling collapse in a shop at Westfield Mount Druitt.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Scott Dodson told Jim there are no injuries, but shoppers were evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters and police are working to secure the area.
