The man who received the final text from a cricket legend has paid tribute.

Andrew Symonds passed away over the weekend after a single-vehicle car crash just outside his hometown of Townsville.

Just hours before the tragic accident the 46-year-old sent a text to Fox Sports Executive Director Steve Crawley.

The message had a screenshot of a news story about NFL star Tom Brady’s new $540 million dollar broadcast deal with Fox in the US.

And the text read “Crawls … we need to talk.”

Mr Crawley told Ben Fordham Symonds had a great sense of humour.

“He was different, he was free.”
