Robert Smith was granted parole on Tuesday and will be a free man in April.

In 2010, Robert Smith left six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart’s body in a suitcase for days before burning and burying her in Sydney’s west.

Kiesha’s mother, Kristi Abrahams, who was found guilty of murdering her daughter, is currently serving a minimum of 16 years in jail.

Retired Detective Chief Inspector Russell Oxford, was in charge of the investigation over 10 years ago and went to the courthouse on Tuesday to witness the decision.

“He was a weak man, a coward that could have helped this girl, instead he went along with Kristi Abrahams,” Mr Oxford told Ray Hadley.

“I went yesterday to see if Robert Smith has any remorse.”
