Star Labor candidate denies links to Eddie Obeid
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour insists he has no links to jailed politician Eddie Obeid.
Mr Asfour has been selected by Labor to run for the Upper House in the upcoming NSW election.
In a studio interview with Ben Fordham, Mr Asfour confirmed Obeid was a guest at his wedding.
However, he claims Obeid was only invited due to pressure from Bankstown MP Tania Mihailuk.
Mr Asfour claims:
“She wanted Eddie Obeid sitting right next to her. She was pestering him about getting into Parliament.”

Mr Asfour also responded to a number of other recent revelations including:
1. Charging Canterbury-Bankstown ratepayers almost $50,000 to study a business degree; and
2. A lavish $146,000 council trip to the United States in 2019
Mr Asfour says:
“I’ll continue to stand up to anyone else who wants to keep coming after me.
“That’s why I referred myself to ICAC.”
