Sri Lankan man charged with terrorism-related offences
Sydney Police have charged a 25-year-old Sri Lankan man with terrorism-related offences.
He was arrested in Kensington yesterday as part of an investigation conducted by the New South Wales Joint Counter Terrorism Team.
Detective Acting Superintendent Mick Sheehy says police will allege the Sri Lankan national is in “possession of a document that was used for the preparation of planning a terrorist offence”.
Police searched the man’s residence in the early hours of Friday morning and seized material which they intend to use as evidence.
A search of his workplace is currently underway.
Superintendent Mick Sheehy says they believe the man is in the country on a student visa, which is due to expire in late September.
He says at this stage there’s no concern for public safety.
The man been refused bail and will appear in Waverly court later this morning.
