NSW Ageing and Disability Commissioner, Robert Fitzgerald has addressed the concerning rise in elder abuse reports.

He explained that “1 in 6 older Australians believed they were abused in the last year”.

Financial abuse has seen a significant surge, with a majority of cases stemming from adult children, involving misused power of attorney, inheritance theft, and outright stealing.

Fitzgerald explained that psychological abuse and financial abuse are the two predominant forms of mistreatment faced by older Australians.

If you or anyone you know has been impacted by elder abuse, please reach out to the following contact numbers for assistance and support.
