Major changes have been announced today with the RBA banning surcharges for debit and credit cards from October and the Fair Work Commission moving forward with abolishing junior rates, but it’s left experts warning it’ll hurt everyday Australians.

CEO of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Andrew McKellar says the decision regarding junior rates could make it harder for young Australians with little to no experience to get jobs.

It’s superficially an appealing argument to make. But the reality is we know that youth unemployment is higher than general unemployment … It makes it less easy for them to compete in the marketplace,” he told Michael McLaren.
