A small business owner has had his profits decimated by energy prices.

When Steve Callaghan took over a general store in rural NSW three months ago, he shopped around for the cheapest energy prices.

But when the first bill came in, it came to a whopping $6,388.

Mr Callaghan told Alan Jones his profit for three months’ work was just $119 as a result.

“It’s just gouging,” he said.

Alan said energy prices are becoming an “enormous” issue.

“This is the greatest crisis for this country, apart from war, since federation.

“It’s very difficult for small business to hang in.”
