Cameron Smith has made his first comments regarding Billy Slater stepping down as Maroons coach to Adam Hawse, opening up about a conversation he had with Slater.

He says he didn’t expect Slater to step down as coach.

“I hadn’t given it much thought … I’d have to speak to my family,” he told Adam Hawse.
