‘Sick joke’ – Gunman who took hostages ‘let off’ because of mental health
Ben Fordham has slammed the decision to find a man facing terror charges not guilty on mental health grounds.
In November 2021 – Simon Fleming fired bullets into the air on a street in Wollongong’s South, holding a fake bomb, before taking hostages at a local shop.
The case has collapsed in the Supreme Court – with Justice Helen Wilson ruling he was “not criminally responsible” for multiple charges due to his schizophrenia.
Ben says “the video footage is utterly terrifying. He could’ve killed someone.”
Fleming will be detained at a Justice Mental Health Facility in Sydney until he faces court later this month.
