‘It’s all about jealousy’: Latrell Mitchell hits back at online haters

South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league player, Latrell Mitchell, is working to put a stop to the online abuse experienced by NRL stars, in particular young Indigenous players.

Latrell Mitchell and teammate, Cody Walker, have warned that young athletes could be driven to suicide if social media companies do not stamp out abusive comments.

Data compiled by Social Protect, an app that blocks abusive comments, has revealed that NRL players receive abusive social media comments every three days.

“I have kids now, so I’m in a position where I have a responsibility to make sure they’re okay,” Latrell told Ray Hadley.

“People should be accountable for what they say…If you don’t like what you see, then shut up.”

If you or anyone you know is dealing with suicide, call Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14.
