An infectious diseases specialist says those who have had COVID-19 are still encouraged to get their booster shot.

Hundreds of thousands of Australians have been infected with COVID over the last month as the Omicron variant takes hold.

Australian National University Medical School Associate Professor Sanjaya Senanayake told Chris Smith each variant is different.

“Once you’ve had the infection you’re unlikely to get another infection for many months.

“Having said all that, once you’ve gotten over your acute illness, you can get your booster shot.”
