‘Should have walked off’ – Former Swans coach on his regret with Adam Goodes
Premiership-winning coach and former Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has opened up on his time with the Swans as he celebrates the release of his new book.
He’s opened up to Adam Hawse about juggling winning games and supporting an Indigenous player facing racism.
“In the end it sort of got the better of him towards the end of his career, and he had to walk away … there wasn’t a great love of the game when he finished up,” he said.
“Another option would have been to actually walk off the ground, and that would have been pretty traumatic, pretty big, but, maybe we should have caught it out,” he added.
He’s also addressed rumours of being in the running to coach either Essendon or Carlton.
“There was some contact early days; they’re heading down the path that they’ll make some decisions, and I expect those decisions will be pretty quickly too,” he said.
