Shoppers flock to Sydney Fish Markets in Christmas rush
The Sydney Fish Markets have been inundated by early-risers, as the pre-Christmas sales marathon continues.
Thousands of shoppers are flocking to Pyrmont to get their seafood for the big day, causing major delays in the area.
Prawns are the hot favourites and it’s expected more than 130 tonnes will be sold this Christmas.
The 36-hour seafood marathon kicked off on Sunday and is expected to lure more than 100,000 people before trading ends today.
The frenzy caused traffic chaos around 7am, with cars queued back along the Anzac Bridge.
Listener Paul travels to Sydney every year from the Central Coast to get his seafood and told Chris Smith it’s “chaos in the carpark”.
“I’ve been here for 15 minutes trying to get out of the carpark, let alone get in.”
