Video footage has captured the moment the new ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ laws caused an accident on a busy highway in New South Wales.

Under the new ‘Slow Down, Move Over’ rules, cars must slow down to 40km/hr while passing emergency vehicles on the rise of the road, including police cars and fire and rescue vehicles.

These rules even apply on highways where speeds can reach up to 110km/hr.

The video, which shows the collision, was taken in a car that was pulled over to the side of the road.

The passengers even comment that passing motorists need to slow down.

Some cars do reduce their speed, but one white car doesn’t.

It can be seen swerving out of control and slamming into the back of a black hatchback which has slowed down to abide by the new road rules.
