Gun crime in New South Wales has reached a 20-year low according to new statistics.

While gangland crime has dominated headlines in recent times, including a shooting earlier this week in Bondi Junction, there were still more than 200 fewer shootings over the past two decades.

Those numbers are no surprise to police, with NSW Police Criminal Groups Squad boss Grant Taylor revealing to John Stanley the changes made that have led to the overall drop.

“We started operating very differently, a different model of policing,” he said.
