John Howard has told Clinton Maynard that people feel the government has lost control, as he points out that the government’s migration estimates have been nowhere near reality.

The former Prime Minister says people in the past who have come to Australia have been proud to call it home.

“I don’t know why we argue about whether it’s monocultural or multicultural—I don’t care, it works. We have welcomed people from the four corners of the earth,” he said.

He also points to the rise of terrorism as to why people have turned to Pauline Hanson’s party, but he points out the solution isn’t bringing migration to a halt.

“You try as best you can to prevent people who don’t like us coming here,” he added.
