Scrap stamp? Why stamp duty is a lazy tax but will never be axed

Chris O'Keefe

Chris O’Keefe says the lazy stamp duty tax is going nowhere after Premier Chris Minns reinstated the tax following the previous Liberal Perrotet government abolished it in favour of a land tax.

He points out scrapping the tax likely wouldn’t have any impact on the cost of houses or cause a rise in downsizing.

“The cold hard truth is this, as long as our governments keep making a fortune out of stamp duty, they’ll keep charging us,” he said.
