Scott Morrison’s ‘Steven Bradbury moment’

Michael McLaren

A new biography has delved into Scott Morrison’s rise to power.

Political journalist Annika Smethurst delved into Mr Morrison’s rise to Prime Minister in the week of Liberal Party turmoil in August 2018 in ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’.

The Walkley Award-winning journalist told Deborah Knight his rise to power was a “Steven Bradbury moment”.

Bradbury famously won the 1000m skating event at the 2002 Winter Olympics after all of his opponents were involved in a last corner pile-up.

“He still made it to the final, he was very good at his role, and in many ways, I think Scott Morrison had positioned himself in the best possible spot.

“I don’t think it was an accident he got there, it was perhaps an accident he got there this week.”
