Penrith Council has dropped plans for a truly eye-watering trip to Europe after immense backlash.

The area has some of the highest council rates in all of the Greater Sydney area, but its council discussed a $200,000 trip to Europe to inspect airports.

With scrutiny piling up, the council has now abandoned these plans just hours prior to a vote.
