One of Australian tennis’ most famous female stars has advised aspiring young tennis players not to discount their doubles skills.

Sam Stosur has been achieving highly on the doubles circuit in recent times, having won the US Open alongside China’s Zhang Shuai and making the quarter final of the Tokyo Olympics.

She and told Bill Woods and Todd Woodbridge doubles shouldn’t be looked at as a “secondary event”.

“I always set out to be a good singles player, and had some doubles success early in my career.

“Now to have that again in these last couple of years has just been awesome.

“It’s unfortunately something that just does not get worked on very much, especially when you’re a junior … and it’s always kind of an afterthought which I think is really sad and disappointing.”
