Revelations large number of Indigenous-style souvenirs are fake

A new report shows Indigenous artists are missing out on millions of dollars in arts and craft revenue – amid a large amount of counterfeit souvenirs.

The Productivity Commission has found two-in-three souvenirs claiming to be of Indigenous origin, are fakes.

The Commission is calling on the federal government to introduce laws, which would prohibit people from using cultural assets in products without the approval of a Traditional Owner.

Productivity Commissioner Romlie Mokak joined Luke Grant to talk about the fake souvenirs.
