Retired NRL referees blow the whistle on financial scammer

Ray Hadley EXCLUSIVE

Former NRL referee Steve Clark is blowing the whistle on a financial planner who has robbed him and other retired refs of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In 2011, Steve and his colleagues were introduced to Graeme Walter Miller, head of CFS Private Wealth, who helped them set up Self-Managed Super Funds.

In the years since, they have been providing funds to Miller which were supposed to be invested in interest-bearing deposits, a fairly common practice.

Steve contacted Ray Hadley after recently receiving a call from ASIC informing him, proceedings have been instigated against Mr Miller.

It turns out Miller had been investing their money in his own companies and had lost all of it.

Miller’s assets have been frozen and a liquidator is soon to be appointed.

Steve tells Ray Hadley he and his wife have lost a big chunk of their life savings.

“I look like I could be working for a long time now to try and build my Super back up if we don’t get any of it back.

“Including what we estimate the interest that we would have earned, we’ve lost in the vicinity of just under a quarter of a million dollars.

Steve tells Ray two other former NRL referees have lost money as well. One of them was actually a schoolmate of Miller.
