‘Reminder’ – Government under mounting pressure to stop sale of historic defence property
There are growing calls to stop the sale of the Victoria Barracks following news that it was one of many sites up for sale.
Former ADF senior official and professor at the University of New South Wales Ian Langford says the site is a reminder to many, including the political class, of what it does on their behalf.
“To have it at the centre of business, to have it at the centre of civil society, is really important because when we choose to send soldiers off to war, we’re obligated to remind ourselves of the role they play in society,” he told Michael McLaren.
