Regional NSW feeling rental squeeze

Joe Hildebrand

A new analysis of rental vacancies rates in regional NSW shows tenants living in regional centres across the country’s largest state are most vulnerable to rent increases.

This is due to landlords looking to recoup the cost of rising interest rates.

Five regions impacted most by the state’s rental crisis shows rental vacancy rates well below 1 per cent.

At the same time rents have increased between 10-20 per cent.

Everybody’s Home spokesperson Kate Colvin told Joe Hildebrand as mortgage interest rates doubled many landlords would seek to pass the cost on to tenants.

Ms Colvin is calling on the state government to get involved and help relieve pressure.
