A record number of people have applied for postal votes ahead of the federal election.

1.6 million postal votes have been requested for May 21, compared to 1.5 million last federal election.

AEC Spokesperson Evan Ekin-Smyth told Deborah Knight they don’t expect too many more postal votes.

“Generally, what we see from election to election is that postal vote applications start to die off once you get late in the election period.”
