Ray Warren’s ‘proud moment’ going head-to-head with son Chris

Iconic sports commentator Ray ‘Rabs’ Warren describes the special moment he called the same Rugby League game as his son Chris.

Chris Warren called Manly’s Elimination Final clash with Cronulla on The Continuous Call Team, while Ray was in an adjacent commentary box for Channel Nine.

Ray was earlier this year inducted into the NRL’s Hall of Fame for his iconic broadcasting efforts, having been the head commentator on Nine since 1992.

He tells Ben Fordham it was “strange” to be calling the same final.

“As a father, it was a proud moment.”

Chris says it was the first time calling the game in a commentary box beside his father’s.

“It was an honour.

“It’s one of those things in life that doesn’t happen every day, I sort of hoped in the back of my mind.”
