A Central Coast man who attacked a female officer delivering, uppercut punches to her face and kneeing her in the stomach, has been sentenced.

30-year-old Blake Maxwell Sanders faced Gosford District Court after pleading guilty to counts of trespassing, intimidation and the reckless wounding of a female police officer.

The 47-year-old senior constable suffered a 2.5cm gash to her forehead.

Police were called to Walu Avenue at Halekulani after reports of a man yelling and screaming.

Sanders ‘suddenly turned’ and lunged at the female officer.

Lead Organiser of the NSW Police Association John Goddard told Ray Hadley the minimum of one year and five-month sentence is not enough, “We would certainly hope this would be reviewed by the DPP today.”

“It doesn’t meet the pub test.

“An officer with great experience has been attacked in such a way.

“I really do hope that she does recover and comes back to doing what she loves to do.

“There is a chance that she may not do that as a result of this attack.”

The Attorney General will review the sentencing proceedings. (See full statement below)

Full statement from Deputy Premier and NSW Police Minister Paul Toole:

“I am utterly appalled by this brutal attack on a female police officer and horrified by the injuries she suffered.

“I have expressed my concerns to NSW Police and urged them to make representations to the DPP for consideration of an appeal.

“I understand my colleague the Attorney General shares my concern and has requested an urgent copy of the transcript of sentencing proceedings to review.”
