Justice Paul Brereton and outgoing minister David Elliott shared a tense exchange at a Christmas gathering in Government House last night.

Ray has been told Justice Brereton, who presided over the Australian Defence Force Afghanistan Inquiry, sought out and confronted Minister Elliott over his recent criticism of ADF Chief Angus Campbell.

David Elliott told Ray Hadley he had a brief discussion with Justice Paul Brereton at the gathering.

“It takes a lot for me to be shocked, but I was shocked at what appeared to be a lobbying exercise.

“I’m on the record saying we are at risk of treating our contemporary veterans the same appalling way we treated our Vietnam veterans.”
