Ray Hadley has been sent footage of a malfunction during the Gardens greyhound race in Newcastle.

During Race 3 last Thursday, the mechanical lure malfunctioned with the boxes opening late and the greyhounds losing sight of the bait.

“It’s obviously a no race,” Ray said.

But a steward overruled others and declared it a race.

“If this sort of nonsense continues, the future of the industry doesn’t look as bright as it should be,” Ray said.

The Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission has announced an inquiry into the decision.
