Ray Hadley is broadcasting from Mudgee today ahead of The Newhaven Park Country Championships this weekend.

Wide World of Sports legend and Mudgee icon Ken Sutcliffe joined Ray at the desk.

Ray couldn’t help but notice Ken “came in like an unmade bed”.

The ‘Male Model from Mudgee’ told Ray he likes to get a beer and a haircut from ‘George’ in Mosman.

“Ah, another free plug!” Ray replied.

While down at the track, Ray’s been busy saving a prime seat in the jockeys’ room for champion jockey Hugh Bowman. 

“I’ve already been to the jockeys’ room and what I’ve done, I’ve got a cushion for you,” Ray told Bowman.

“All these young blokes, they won’t respect their elders and when you get here on Sunday they’ll say ‘No, this is my normal spot, you can’t sit here’.

He informed Mudgee Race Club President Tony Brown he’s been roped in to help guard the seat.

“I’ve picked a spot for you and Tony’s going to make sure that the people looking after the jockeys’ rooms look after you.”
