Rare historical Harbour Bridge photos prompt search for mysterious photographer

2GB Afternoons

An extremely rare album of photographs by a woman documenting the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was lost in the State Library of NSW for nearly 90 years.

Only known by her married name, Mrs Frank Smith was a prize-winning amateur who was able to document the five-year period of construction before the Sydney Harbour Bridge opened on March 19, 1932.

Curator at State Library of NSW Margot Riley now holds the photographs in her possession and told Deborah Knight no one has come forward with any information about Mrs Frank Smith.

“She knew how important it was for her photographs to be kept for the future.”
