Rabbitohs demand ‘right treatment’ as state blocks move to Allianz Stadium

Article image for Rabbitohs demand ‘right treatment’ as state blocks move to Allianz Stadium

The Rabbitohs are calling for “fairness” after a highly-anticipated return to Allianz Stadium was blocked by the state government.

While club officials say the move has been in the works for more than two years, the state says they haven’t fulfilled their contract to play out a few more years at Accor Stadium.

The dispute comes as tensions remain high after the NRL accused the state government of reneging on a $250 million stadium renovation deal.

South Sydney CEO Blake Solly told Ray Hadley he doesn’t believe the request to move is “unreasonable”.

“We have been honest with the government … and if there’s no money left to invest in Accor Stadium, we should be able to move to Allianz,” he said.

“We just want to play in the best facility we can so that our fans, members, our players and corporate partners can have what every other club does.

“All we really want is fairness and the right treatment.”
