‘Pretty zany stuff’: Big W book accused of ‘sick’ indoctrination of kids

A children’s author has been accused of trying to turn children into “political pawns” with a book teaching the concept of white privilege.

Race Cars by Jenny Devenny, which is stocked at Big W, is described as a tool “to help parents and educators facilitate tough conversations about race, privilege and oppression” using different-coloured racecars as a metaphor.

NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham told Chris O’Keefe “it’s pretty zany stuff”.

“I always think there’s something sick about adults who want to push adult political concepts onto little kids.

“The whole notion in itself is absurd, because in a car race a white car and a black car … all get treated equally!

“Parents have got to be very careful.”
