Police work to retrieve bodies of British family killed in Blue Mountains landslide

Police are relaunching a mission to retrieve the bodies of a father and son killed by a landslide in the Blue Mountains.

The family of five were on holidays from the UK, bushwalking at Wentworth Falls, when they were hit by falling rocks.

The 49-year-old father and his nine-year-old son were killed.

The mother and their 14-year-old son are in critical condition in Westmead Hospital.

Their 15-year-old daughter was uninjured but is being treated for shock.

Blue Mountains Area Command Detective Acting Superintendent John Nelson told Ben Fordham they will use helicopters to retrieve the bodies if weather permits.

Blue Mountains tour operator Graham Chapman told Ben “it’s heartbreaking”.

“I’m not surprised.

“I know that track very well … it’s not for the faint-hearted.”
