NSW Police’s Strike Force Tronto has brought legal action against almost 200 alleged arsonists and fire ban breachers.

In two months, 183 individuals have been investigated for more than 200 offences, including 40 juveniles.

The majority of charges concern the breach of a Total Fire Ban or disposal of lit matches or cigarettes.

Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith tells Mark Levy the penalties for such crimes are “not small outcomes”.

“Any individual caught lighting a fire – intentionally, unintentionally or otherwise – during this danger period will face court.”
