Police officer run down by man on stolen motorbike
A police officer remains in hospital after being deliberately run down by a man on a stolen bike north of Sydney.
Ray Hadley revealed police went to the man’s home at Lake Macquarie on Saturday, following reports of the theft.
The 23-year-old allegedly hit the officer with the bike in the driveway of the Wallsend house before fleeing the scene.
The Senior Constable suffered extensive cuts and burns and was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.
At about 11am on Sunday, police caught up with the man at Glendale and arrested him after a short foot pursuit.
He was already wanted on three outstanding warrants and has been arrested and refused bail.
He’s facing multiple charges including, resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, negligent driving and will face court today.
