Why you like the music you like

Bill Woods

You might be one for R&B, Country or maybe Indie Rock.

Or perhaps you’re secretly turning up the 80s love songs in the car when no one’s listening. Have you wondered why you love a particular song or type of music?

Bill Woods is joined by Dr Marny Lishman, Health & Community Psychologist, who says the answer may lie in your personality, although other factors also play a role.

“Many people tend to form their musical identity in adolescence, around the same time that they explore their social identity”, says Dr Lishman.

“Preferences may slightly change over time, but research shows that there are some interesting factors involved in the music we choose to listen to.”
