‘We’re doing it particularly tough’: Aussie chocolate maker describes the hardships faced due to COVID-19 over Easter

The Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery are one of the most well-known chocolate makers in the country, but are suffering during the usual busiest time of year.

Easter is usually one of the busiest times of the year for out chocolate industry, but 2020 will go down as one they’d want to forget.

This is the case for the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, with sales down by 80% compared to this time last year.

Leanne Neeland is the co-owner of the family owned business, and joined Luke Grant this morning.

“We’ve had to let go of 140 of our loyal, amazing, local staff, and they have to go home to tell their families they’ve got no income coming next week.

“Like everyone, we’re adapting our business to today’s environment; it’s a different way of doing business.”
