Volkswagen’s more affordable 110TSi Tiquan SUV’s return under $40,000.

Motor Torque

Last September, Volkswagen returned to market with a more-affordable five-seat front-drive Tiguan SUV under $40,000 in both the entry Trendline grade and better equipped Comfortline – I tested the later, listed at $38,650 but currently on special at $39,990 drive-away. The 110TSi Tiguan Comfortline utilises a 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder driving through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. Again, with good mid-range torque the drive for most situations is more than adequate in a medium SUV that like most of the $30-40 thousand competition today is very highly equipped. The 110TSI Tiquan Comfortline has some nice touches – in addition to the rear view camera, automatic LED headlights and rain sensing wipers it gains larger 18-inch wheels, an electric tailgate, 3-zone climate control air, an 8-inch media and navigation screen and keyless entry and start.

Engine performance will satisfy most drivers while I managed 8L/100 with mainly stop-start city driving. The 110TSi VW Tiquan provides a pleasant driving experience although the ride quality from the Comfortline’s larger 18-inch wheels can get a little sharp. The high point the interior – excellent room front and back, rear seat passengers getting their own welcome air vents, a USB port and a 12 volt socket. Boot space doesn’t get much better in medium SUV’s at 615 litres.  Safety elements are high including a local five star crash safety rating.
