Vehicle deliveries up 25% in June but industry cautions careful analysis

DAVID BERTHON

Motor vehicles deliveries in June showed a welcome 25 per cent lift compared to
the same month last year however industry insiders have cautioned the numbers,
suggesting they don’t reflect the current slowing in orders and enquiries. Most
new cars reported sold last month were ordered months, in some cases several
years prior, and have only just been declared upon delivery. Most dealers now
reporting a big slowdown amid rising interest rates and cost of living pressures,
many reporting orders number around half that at the same time last year.
Toyota’s Hilux topped the charts in June posting 6142 deliveries however in a
major upset the Tesla Model Y came in second with 5560, making it our top-
selling passenger car, as a large shipment of the electric SUVs arrived. Electric
cars accounted for 8.8 percent of all June deliveries. I’m David Berthon
