Unlocking bat secrets, we could live to age 200

It’s fair to say bats have not been getting a lot of good PR lately. The coronavirus pandemic has placed a new focus onto bats as transmitters or agents of danger.

But apparently, they may hold the key to what we need to learn about COVID-19.  Like us they are mammals, and yet they don’t get sick from coronaviruses – even though their populations are rife with them.

A new report in Cosmos magazine claims bats may hold many of the secrets we need to unlock about COVID-19, given their own immunity.

The study also looked into the long lifespan of a particular bat that lives to times longer than it should

Andrew Bain, who authored the report, joins John Stanley to discuss what we could learn from these creatures.
