Turkey votes to kill democracy
Opponents of Turkey’s controversial referendum have vowed to challenge the result after the narrowest of victories for the “yes” campaign.
The result granted President Recep Erdogan expansive new powers, and included the abolition of parliamentary democracy in the nation.
Professor Ihsan Yilmaz, Research Chair for Islamic Studies and Intercultural Dialogue at Deakin University and leading voice on Turkish issues, has lived and worked in the troubled state for much of his life.
